About Baby Name Atlas

Baby Name Atlas is a free, independent project that explores historical U.S. baby-name trends using public-domain data from the Social Security Administration (SSA).

Data & methodology

• Source: SSA baby names (national & state files, 1880–present).
• We convert the raw TXT files into JSON and aggregate for charts and lists.
• Names with fewer than 5 births in a year are omitted by the SSA to protect privacy.
